WEEK 10 DEVELOPMENT BLOG FINAL MAJOR PROJECT.
PROGRESS MADE FROM LAST WEEK.
This week I created a walking animation as well as a walking
animation for my FLOOR IS LAVA game idea. I used an image reference of a sprite
sheet that I got of Pinterest from this website openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/kzawadzki-eportfolio/files/2016/09/Sprite
_sheet_v2.jpg.l used the image below as my reference when I drew the stick
figures to create a animation of a fire fighter walking and running drawing
pixel is not one of my strongest point
thus I used a sprit movement reference.
Below are the character sprites that I created for my FLOOR
IS LAVA game. the first group of images l created were to create a running animation.
l created the following images of PISKEL.
During the process of creating character sprite, I first
drew it all black besides it having a uncoloured head because I had planned on making
it look like or rather I wanted it to resemble the character board that I had
created but because the image is a solely made of pixels thus I couldn’t add a
lot of details top it. l initially made four frames, but l then had to
duplicate the ones I had then copy certain parts rather than having to
completely change the whole thing, so the four frames turned to 8 frames.
After I drew all 8 frames I then shaded it yellow but I was
doubting it because some fire fighters wear red protective gear and that the
one people are more familiar with so l drew red lines across the fire fighters body
and then drew yellow-neon like lines so compare the two .I ended up choosing
the yellow -neon lines because the red lines didn’t look like what I had Envisioned
rather it look like sort of like a pyjama
plus the yellow – neon stripes are what I had on my character board.
I also created a walking animation for my fire fighter character
by just copy the running fire fighter frames and then editing them to replicate
a walking animation by basing it of a sprite sheet.
I then saved the images on my browser and then exported it
as a GIF then I uploaded it to flowlab as a running animation.
I also created a walking animation for my character by copying the running character animation that I had initially created then shading one had and leg in some of the frames a light grey colour to help different arm movement because if I had used black it would have camouflaged with the characters body making the animation seem like only the feet are moving rather than the whole body.
I also then saved the images on the Piskel browser than I exported
it to my one drive files I also uploaded it to flow lab as a GIF of a walking fire
fighter animation.
After I had uploaded it on flowlab nothing happened no character
showed up although I had properly uploaded it only to realise that I had
actually not created a pixel of the character itself rather I had created a animation
of the character ;so l created or rather drew a pixel of the character the
image can be seen below of what the character I drew looked like on Piskel and
how it look on the game screen.
After creating the games main character, I then created the
enemies in the game .
The first one I created was of the mutant lava jelly fish which
I based of the sketch that I initially made of what I wanted the jelly fish to
look like and I then search up images of pixel art jelly fish to get
inspiration and bellow are the images of what I had created on piskel.
A image of the results of different jelly fish pixel art.
This is the first image that I drew on Piskel.
Then above is the second version of the jelly fish tat I drew
on Piskel.
The image above is the third version image that I created
which I ended up choosing at the end because it resembled my initial sketch
compared to the other two and it had more shading of the different colours such
as different shades of purple and orange which made it way better than the two
that I had initially drew.
From the third version of the mutant lava jelly- fish I drew
more pixel jelly fish for the jelly animation by drawing some of the arms in
different positions to create an animation effect. I drew the jelly fish into six
frames. Below are images of the mutant lava jelly – fish that I drew.
I also drew a pixel art of mutant lava shark
The images above are of what I had drawn on Piskel at first
but I was concerned that based of my sketch l made of what l wanted my mutant
lava shark to look like and it had a loyt
of details which I would have struggled to draw on Piskel because it doesn’t provide
a smaller pencil tool so I then decided to create it on Photoshop by merging
two images then using a paint tool to draw the image and to colour in.
This is the final image or final drawing.
I also created two versions of a tile of lava, but I ended
up creating a second version which I ended
up choosing because the first tile would camouflage with the background too
much.
BREAKTHROUGHS MADE
At the end of last week I had created the walking animation
sprite which I forgot to save to my one drive because I hadn’t finished it
quite yet so the next time I went to finish it up but I could find it and the
page had refreshed but I luckily discovered that Piskel saves all the files
that are created on its browser history so I was able to retrieve it back.
ON A SEPARATE
FOLDER THEY IS A VIDEO ON HOW I RECOVERED MY UNSAVED WORK FROM PISKEL.
ANYTHING I FOUND HARD
I found it hard to draw animation for a pixel character
until I used a sprite sheet to create a walking and a running animation. l also
struggled to upload my shark image because it had a white background and parts
of it were white because I wanted it to give a illusion that the shark had some
of the parts disconnected to it so I had to edit the image on photos the
desktop app to remove the background then I had to reupload to flowlab but the
image size was to big then I had to resize it on photo then upload it again.
Also, flowlab kept freezing up.
(on a separate folder they is a video showing my flowlab
freezing)
PLANS FOR NEXT WEEK
I plan on taking a video then adding sound to it l also plan
on giving or rather appointing behaviour on my game and adding sound effect s
as well as adding a game reward, creating a health or live count as well.
